Welcome to Cheddar Valley Community Church. We are a family friendly church in the Cheddar Valley, Somerset.

We are ordinary people, living real lives, making mistakes, experiencing joy and doing the best we can with what we have. We are each taking our next steps to becoming more like Jesus and helping others do the same. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re from or what you’ve done. You are of infinite worth to God and us. Wherever you are in life, you have a purpose and we want to help you become the person God created you to be.

In September we held our vision meeting. To read the summary please click here.

We are passionate about worshiping Jesus

We are meeting monthly at Shipham Hall, 10.30am-12 and monthly at Draycott Hall, 5-7pm. During the other weeks we will meet together at various locations. Please check the rolling notices and calender for up to date times and locations.

All of our Sunday meetings are streamed over zoom.

Join a Home Group

Home groups are beginning to meet in person as well as over Zoom and through WhatsApp messages, supporting and praying for each other.

We have a number of different home groups that usually meet in people’s homes as well as at The Oasis. They all have a different flavour but all include bible study and a coffee. They are a place to make friends, find support and encourage each other in our Christian lives.

Pastoral care

We are working with the other churches in the valley to provide Prayer For You, our pastoral prayer support. This is an opportunity for individual prayer with one or two other people praying for you either over the phone or Zoom. This has been made available for our whole community in the Cheddar Valley.

Please email Anita for more information or to arrange a prayer appointment: prayerforyou@icloud.com

Join our Kids and Youth programmes

When meeting together at Shipham Hall we will have a dedicated room for our children to meet together, have fun and learn more about Jesus with our children’s team. Our meeting at Draycott Hall is family friendly and children are welcome to stay throughout the meeting with craft available.

Note: We are committed to providing a safe environment for our young people and have a dedicated safeguarding co-ordinator who oversees this.

Join our worship group

Worship is a strong part of our culture at Cheddar Valley Community Church and there is a period of worship each Sunday morning.  We also encourage those with musical talents to write and share new songs with the worship team.   We view Communion as an important part of our worship and share communion together once a month.  If you have musical talents and would like to express them as part of our worship team, please let us know.

Get involved in Sunday serving

We are a community church and rely on church members to assist with Sunday service setup, welcoming, and coffee.  If you are able and willing to assist us on a Sunday morning, please let us know.

Join our Infinity group

Infinity is a group for young people aged 12-15 who meet every Thursday at the Church Centre from 3.30-4.45pm. This is a safe place to hang out with friends over pool, x-box, craft and games. There’s always toast served with the occasional treat of pizza! From 4.45pm until 5.15pm there is the opportunity to stay on for a more focussed time to chat about topics, sing worship songs and go deeper into who God is.

We also hold regular events, working alongside other churches to support the young people in the valley including film nights, bonfire night and other fun activities.

Message us to find out more about Infinity.

Join our Synergy group

Synergy is a group for people who find themselves ‘solo’ for whatever reason. We meet together once a month for lunch after church at various locations to chat and socialise, usually followed by a walk in the beautiful countryside of the Cheddar Valley.  Do message us if you are interested and want to know what is happening during this pandemic period as we continue to meet where possible within current guidelines.

Join our Cameo group

Cameo (Come And Meet Each Other) is a group usually held at The Oasis, to bring together the older and more isolated in our community who find it harder to get out. We meet on the 3rd Thursday of the month at The Oasis in the afternoon and enjoy sandwiches, cake and lots of chatter! Do message us if you are interested and want to know what is happening during this pandemic period

The following programmes are run in partnerships to support our community

Kintsugi Hope is a charity based in the UK striving to make a difference to peoples mental wellbeing. Wellbeing groups are held at CVCC and we are working with the Kings Academy chaplaincy to support youth wellbeing groups to start at the school.

Cheddar Valley Community Church works together with all the churches in the Cheddar Valley to serve our community. Leaders meet monthly to pray together and support each other. An annual pilgrimage walking from Cheddar to Wells over the beautiful Mendip Hills is always a highlight of the year. This is held as part of the Thy Kingdom Come event taking place between Ascension Day and Pentecost. The churches are working together to provide a monthly Zoom service for local learning disability care homes and regular youth nights.

Movement’s vision is to establish a regular gathering for young people in rural churches across the South West, bringing these groups of young people together to meet with God in prayer and worship accompanied by quality Christian teaching that is practical, relevant and useful. CVCC is delighted to support this work and regularly takes a group of teenagers to their worship nights.

Members of Cheddar Valley Community Church have attended the summer conference for many years and continue to do so. We are grateful for the support of New Wine throughout the year, our leaders attending the leadership conference as well as connecting with the regional leadership networks on a more frequent basis.

Daneswood is a local care home for adults with learning disabilities and is a valued part of our church community. We are pleased to welcome members of Daneswood to our morning service and seek to support them where we can.

Alongside other churches, we take it in turns to provide a service for the residents at this local nursing and residential home. A small group from the church regularly visit the home to provide some musical entertainment.

Meet our amazing team of church leaders

Cheddar Valley Community Church is predominantly run by a fantastic group of volunteers, supported and led by a leadership team of 4 alongside 5 trustees. The leaders are incredibly grateful for all the energy and commitment the church gives to loving and supporting our community. Without all our volunteers the church would not be able to do all that it does.
