Welcome to Cheddar Valley Community Church.

We are a family friendly church in the Cheddar Valley, meeting every Sunday 5.30pm at Draycott Memorial Hall, BS27 3UE.

We are ordinary people, living real lives, making mistakes, experiencing joy and doing the best we can with what we have. We are each taking our next steps to becoming more like Jesus and helping others do the same. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re from or what you’ve done. You are of infinite worth to God and us. Wherever you are in life, you have a purpose and we want to help you become the person God created you to be.

Read a little more about Pentecost from Carol Russell on our blog as she embellishes the story from her imagination as to what might have happened in between the lines. Peter and Pentecost

CHURCH TOGETHER

We are passionate about worshiping Jesus

SUNDAY GATHERING

We meet every Sunday, 5.30-7pm at Draycott Memorial Hall. The first Sunday of the month we share a light tea together before the service starts, the other Sundays please come and grab a cup of tea or coffee with a biscuit and take your seat at a table. We gather around tables with activities so there is always something for children and young people to engage with. Everyone including children and young people are actively encouraged to be a part of every service.

Our Sunday meetings are usually streamed over zoom.

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER

Every Sunday morning, we meet to pray in The Oasis prayer room 9am-9.45am, seeking to draw close to Jesus and bringing the needs of our community and world to Him.

HOME GROUPS

We have a number of different home groups that usually meet in people’s homes as well as at The Oasis. They all have a different flavour but all include bible study and a coffee. They are a place to make friends, find support and encourage each other in our Christian lives.

Message us to find out more.

Pastoral care

PASTORAL

Caring for and supporting each other is very important to us at Cheddar Valley Community Church. We have a Pastoral Lead, Anita, who co-ordinates this, working alongside the Leadership team. There is a great emphasis on everyone supporting each other and this is particularly seen through the home groups.

If you would like pastoral support please message us.

KIDS AND YOUTH

Our meeting at Draycott Hall is family friendly and children are encouraged to be a part of the meeting and have craft available. We also have a children’s group led by our dedicated children’s team, that go out for their own activities during the talk.

Our youth are encouraged to take roles within the life of the church, such as in the worship team or tech.

Note: We are committed to providing a safe environment for our young people and have a dedicated safeguarding co-ordinator who oversees this.

Worship is a strong part of our culture at Cheddar Valley Community Church, there is a period of worship each Sunday meeting. We also encourage those with musical talents to write and share new songs with the worship team.   We view Communion as an important part of our worship and share communion together once a month.  If you have musical talents and would like to express them as part of our worship team, please let us know.

IN THE COMMUNITY

WILDFIRE

Wildfire is a group for young people in school years 7-9. We meet at the Church Centre on Wednesdays after school 4-5.15pm. We have toast, craft, lego, basketball, games and lots of fun hanging out together as well as exploring more about who God is and his love for each of us.

Message us to find out more about Wildfire.

Rooted

Rooted is a new group launched in January 2026 and runs together with the other churches in Cheddar, being joined by Ruth Motion as a leader from St Andrews. This group is for all those in years 5&6 and has a similar feel to Wildfire with games, sporting activities and an opportunity to explore faith.

Message us to find out more about Rooted.

CAMEO

Cameo (Come And Meet Each Other) is a group usually held at The Oasis, to bring together the older and more isolated in our community who find it harder to get out. We meet on the 3rd Thursday of the month at The Oasis in the afternoon and enjoy sandwiches, cake and lots of chatter! Do message us if you are interested and want to know more.

Message us to request Cameo details

The following programmes are run in partnerships to support our community

An after school club run with other churches in the Cheddar for young people in years 5&6.

Cheddar Valley Community Church works together with all the churches in the Cheddar Valley to serve our community. Leaders meet monthly to pray together and support each other. An annual pilgrimage walking from Cheddar to Wells over the beautiful Mendip Hills is always a highlight of the year. This is held as part of the Thy Kingdom Come event taking place between Ascension Day and Pentecost. We have also worked together to provide a stall at Festive night and a prayer tent at community festivals such as the jubilee and coronation village picnics.

We are very grateful for the support of Scripture Union and the use of their resources. One of our leaders is a faith guide.

Members of Cheddar Valley Community Church have attended the summer conference for many years and continue to do so. We are grateful for the support of New Wine throughout the year with our leaders attending the leadership conference annually in Harrogate.

ABOUT US

MEET THE TEAM

Cheddar Valley Community Church is predominantly run by a fantastic group of volunteers, supported and led by a leadership team of 4 alongside 5 trustees. The leaders are incredibly grateful for all the energy and commitment the church gives to loving and supporting our community. Without all our volunteers the church would not be able to do all that it does.

We have links with a number of churches across the world including churches in France, Turkey, Portugal, Bulgaria, USA and Wales. We regularly visit these churches providing teaching and support.
