Welcome to Cheddar Valley Community Church. We are a family friendly church in the Cheddar Valley, Somerset.

We are ordinary people, living real lives, making mistakes, experiencing joy and doing the best we can with what we have. We are each taking our next steps to becoming more like Jesus and helping others do the same. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re from or what you’ve done. You are of infinite worth to God and us. Wherever you are in life, you have a purpose and we want to help you become the person God created you to be.

CHURCH TOGETHER

We are passionate about worshiping Jesus

HOME GROUPS

Home groups continue in a number of different ways, for example over Zoom and through WhatsApp messages, supporting and praying for each other.

We have a number of different home groups that usually meet in people’s homes as well as at The Oasis. They all have a different flavour but all include bible study and a coffee. They are a place to make friends, find support and encourage each other in our Christian lives.

SMALL GROUPS

To ensure everyone in the church feels supported and cared for at this difficult time with the Coronavirus and Lockdown, everyone has the option to be connected into a small group of no more than 5 people. This enables challenges, loss and encouragements to be quickly communicated so that people can pray and, where necessary, the appropriate support provided quickly.

Pastoral care

PASTORAL

We are working with the other churches in the valley to provide Prayer For You, our pastoral prayer support. This is an opportunity for individual prayer with one or two other people praying for you either over the phone or Zoom. This has been made available for our whole community in the Cheddar Valley.

Please email Anita for more information or to arrange a prayer appointment: prayerforyou@icloud.com

WORSHIP

Worship is a strong part of our culture at Cheddar Valley Community Church and there is a period of worship each Sunday morning as part of our Zoom service.  We also encourage those with musical talents to write and share new songs with the worship team.   We view Communion as an important part of our worship and, at this time of lockdown, we each have Communion in our own homes on the second Sunday of the month, as part of our Zoom service.  If you have musical talents and would like to express them as part of our worship team, please let us know.

SUNDAY SERVING

We are a community church and rely on church members to assist with Sunday service setup, welcoming, and coffee (post lockdown).  If you are able and willing to assist us on a Sunday morning, please let us know.

IN THE COMMUNITY

Join our Alpha Course

ALPHA COURSE

Alpha is a relaxed course giving people the opportunity to explore life and the Christian faith. No question is too big! During Lockdown we are offering this course over Zoom so people can explore these big issues from the comfort of their own home.

Over the summer we ran Youth Alpha at Infinity on a Thursday, again over Zoom.

Join our Infinity group

INFINITY

Infinity is a group for young people aged 11-14 who meet every Thursday at the Church Centre from 4-5.30pm. This is a safe place to hang out with friends over pool, x-box, craft and games. There’s always toast served with the occasional treat of pizza! At times throughout the year some of the young people stay on after Infinity to be part of a worship band where they can sing or play an instrument. Infinity band leads worship at regular times throughout the year at Family Services.

During the coronavirus pandemic restrictions, we are meeting outdoors for regular events when restrictions allow. In the summer we held a 3 day event with lots of outdoor activities, joining the New Wine youth stream, Luminosity, live over YouTube in the evening. Currently, we are meeting Thursdays over zoom 4-5pm with games, videos, music and chat.

Message us to find out more about Infinity.

Join our Synergy group

SYNERGY

Synergy is a group for people who find themselves ‘solo’ for whatever reason. We meet together once a month for lunch after church at various locations to chat and socialise, usually followed by a walk in the beautiful countryside of the Cheddar Valley.  Do message us if you are interested and want to know what is happening during this pandemic period as we continue to meet where possible within current guidelines.

CAMEO

Cameo (Come And Meet Each Other) is a group usually held at The Oasis, to bring together the older and more isolated in our community who find it harder to get out. We meet on the 2nd Thursday of the month at The Oasis in the afternoon and enjoy sandwiches, cake and lots of chatter! Do message us if you are interested and want to know what is happening during this pandemic period

The following programmes are run in partnerships to support our community

The Cafe, situated in the heart of Cheddar, was run by Cheddar Valley Community Church for many years, to be a community cafe where the love of Jesus was expressed through caring for others, praying and being a place of peace and refuge. It is currently being changed to become a cafe, run and supported by the community with a Christian ethos.

Cheddar Valley Community Church works together with all the churches in the Cheddar Valley to serve our community. Leaders meet monthly to pray together and support each other. An annual pilgrimage walking from Cheddar to Wells over the beautiful Mendip Hills is always a highlight of the year. This is held as part of the Thy Kingdom Come event taking place between Ascension Day and Pentecost.  During the Coronavirus pandemic leaders meet to pray monthly and are working together in many ways to support the community at this time. One way in which the churches are working together is to provide a monthly Zoom service for local learning disability care homes.

CVCC is delighted to be able to host the Cheddar Foodbank at its Church Centre on Gadd’s Lane. The Foodbank is open every Monday and Saturday mornings from 10.30-12.30 .

During Lockdown the Foodbank is running out of the container at the Wessex Business Centre in Cheddar, BS27 3EJ

Members of Cheddar Valley Community Church have attended the summer conference for many years and continue to do so. We are grateful for the support of New Wine throughout the year, our leaders attending the leadership conference as well as connecting with the regional leadership networks on a more frequent basis.

Daneswood is a local care home for adults with learning disabilities and is a valued part of our church community. We are pleased to welcome members of Daneswood to our morning service and seek to support them where we can.

Alongside other churches, we take it in turns to provide a service for the residents at this local nursing and residential home. A small group from the church regularly visit the home to provide some musical entertainment.

MEET THE TEAM

Cheddar Valley Community Church is predominantly run by a fantastic group of volunteers, supported and led by a leadership team of 4 alongside 5 trustees. The leaders are incredibly grateful for all the energy and commitment the church gives to loving and supporting our community. Without all our volunteers the church would not be able to do all that it does.
